Srirupa Bose Roy

Hailing from the “City of Joy” and being the young rebellious teen that I was, my parents were always at the edge of their seats when it came to me taking life decisions. It all started with me explaining Mark Anthony’s speech from Julius Caesar to my subject teacher and the latter showering praises on me. I somehow felt Literature was my calling. When I completed my post-graduation, I was reluctant to fill up the B.Ed. form as I was convinced, I didn’t have the patience and calm a teacher requires. Little did I know that I’ll be completing an Octennial with ease this 2021 in the teaching profession.
I always found peace whenever I was reading and got excited when I helped someone “understand” anything under the sun.
I have been lucky enough to have interesting students who always help me keep myself updated. One thing the teaching profession has taught me is, “Never be afraid of questions!”. There’s no shame in admitting you are unaware of something. You learn something new every single day. This helps you grow.
I am presently teaching in Christ School ICSE as a High School English teacher.
I would love to see the next generation pursuing the teaching profession, especially opting for English as their major, for, as it is rightly said in the movie “Dead Poet’s Society”,
“Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for”.
